Check out our new YouTube channel with videos on how to set up different labs or run lessons on the computer! The project is young, but email requests for new videos and we will post them as we finish them. All videos are designed to accompany lessons and activities in Biology Rocks.
Student Modeling and Simulation
Creating models to demonstrate patterns in biology can be a powerful way to make abstract or large scale concepts more concrete. From creating student-made models in Excel to working with simulations produced by experts in the field, working with virtual models is an important component of Biology Rocks.
We have even created our own model to demonstrate allele divergence. This model was written to begin a discussion of speciation, and illustrates the effects of isolation on populations.
The model was written in NetLogo, and the program itself is available right here! Just click the NetLogo logo to download the program, and the picture to download the code.
